Irish America Reawakening: the Eoin McKiernan Story, by Deirdre McKiernan Hetzler

Eoin McKiernan had an “Irish childhood” in New York State, because all the towns where he lived were filled with new Irish immigrants.  He was able to spend summers in Ireland, with his Irish grandmother, deepening his connection with the old country.  He married an Irish-American girl he had met at Gaelic school in New York City.  He taught English at SUNY Geneseo and then at St. Thomas College in St. Paul, MN.  It was his life work to rebuild the ties between Irish-Americans and the language and culture of Ireland.

Deirdre McKiernan Hetzler will appear at the Local Author Book Fair at the Fairport Public Library, 1 Fairport Village Landing, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 PM.
