Sean Kolczynski, The Night Before Middle School

The Night Before Middle School

The Night Before Middle School, written and illustrated by Sean Kolczynski

Based on Clement Moore’s classic, The Night Before Christmas, this title follows a new student from his nightmares of textbooks through the first day of school, when just getting to each class in turn is a challenge.  By the end of the day, he realizes he can do the work, his old friends are around, and he might even make some new friends.  This book serves to reassure an elementary student—or to remind the middle schooler of new students’ fears.

The author wrote this while he was in Elementary School.  Maybe you saw the interview in the Democrat and Chronicle?

“The backpacks were hung on the hooks with care

In hopes that the school bus soon would be there.”
